CavalKid All-Star Shows
Posted on Aug 01, 2010

June-August 2010: We've been co-producing the Bindlestiff Cavalcade of Youth since its beginning in 2004. The acts have gotten better and better, and now for the first time we're finding ways to offer the young performers performance opportunities beyond the theater stage. This summer, we participated in three fun and rewarding events.

May 18: Four talented teens (okay some were pre-teens, but that didn't have the same alliteration) provided strolling entertainment and two shows at the Brooklyn Children Museum's 150th birthday gala celebration. Bindlestiff has been based in Brooklyn for over 15 years, and we moved operations here a few years ago, so we were pleased to collaborate with these two fine local not-for-profit arts organizations. And the kids had a blast!

June 10: The Queens Public Library invited us to perform at the kick-off for its summer reading series. Our performers presented a fine show of comic magic, juggling, and hand balancing and then taught a juggling workshop. The show also included young break dancers and singers, and the workshop soon turned into a cultural arts exchange with the jugglers and break dancers teaching each other tricks.

August 7-8: The CavalKids spent a weekend in beautiful Annandale-on-Hudson, NY, where we presented two shows in the historic mirrored "spiegelpalais" tent as part of Bard College's prestigious SummerScape series. Audience members were greeted by Cavalcade-trained stilt walkers and then treated to a full show of juggling, hula hoop artistry, contortion, acrobatics, clowning, aerialism, feats of balance, trained dogs, and more-all presented by our all-star underage CavalCast.
